Application of polylactic acid (PLA) in packaging field

       PLA, with natural source of lactic acid as the main raw material, has good biodegradability and compatibility, and is considered as the most promising green packaging material.


       After being discarded, polylactic acid (PLA) products can be completely decomposed into carbon dioxide and water under natural conditions, which can be absorbed by organisms and has no pollution to the environment. At the same time, PLA has good transparency, anti-mildew and anti-bacterial properties.


       First, transparency

       PLA film has good transparency and glossiness, and its excellent performance is comparable to cellophane and PET, which is not found in other degradable plastics. The film offers the same heat and impact resistance as petroleum-based films, while also offering excellent elasticity and transparency.


        Two, barrier

        PLA can be made into thin film products with high transparency, good barrier property, excellent processing formability and mechanical properties, which can be used for fruit and vegetable soft packaging. It can create suitable storage environment for fruits and vegetables, maintain the life activities of fruits and vegetables, delay aging, and maintain the color, aroma, taste and appearance of fruits and vegetables.


        Three, bacteriostatic

        PLA can form a weak acidic environment on the surface of the product, which has the basis of antibacterial and mildew resistance. If the auxiliary use of other antibacterial agents can reach more than 90% antibacterial rate, it can be used in the antibacterial packaging of the product. Polylactic acid (PLA) is regarded as the most promising green packaging material.
