Introduction to Modified PA6 and PA66 Materials

Modified PA6 (Polyamide 6) and PA66 (Polyamide 66) are engineered plastics optimized through physical or chemical methods to enhance the performance of the base polyamide resins. They are widely used in automotive, electronics, machinery, and other industries.

I. Key Properties of Base Materials

1. PA6 (Polycaprolactam)

• Molecular Structure: Formed by ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam, with a relatively flexible molecular chain.

• Core Properties:

• High toughness and impact resistance, especially at low temperatures.

• High water absorption (approximately 3%–9%), affecting dimensional stability in humid environments.

• Lower melting point (~220°C), wide processing window, and good flowability.

• Excellent wear resistance and self-lubrication, suitable for dynamic load applications.

2. PA66 (Polyhexamethylene Adipamide)

• Molecular Structure: Formed by condensation polymerization of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, with a stiffer molecular chain.

• Core Properties:

• Higher strength, modulus, and heat resistance compared to PA6 (melting point ~260°C).

• Lower water absorption (approximately 2%–3%), better dimensional stability.

• Superior wear resistance and chemical resistance (e.g., oil, solvents) compared to PA6.

• Narrower processing temperature range and slightly poorer flowability, requiring precise process control.
